Im a Fife based photographer covering most aspects of photographic work.

My passion for photography started with landscapes which soon evolved into portraits.

Photography in general, is mostly the same whether you are shooting a mountain range, a person or an object. It’s the right amount of light on any subject guiding the eye to the star of the show, where you want your viewers eye to rest.

When I was just taking  landscapes, I went to the same place over and over again trying to capture unique lighting. Sunrise was always my preferred time, where I would just sit and enjoy a beautiful morning. Camera set up with the wonder and anticipation of what might happen “Is this going to be magical”. More often than not, I was let down and captured the same photo as I shot a couple of weeks back. Don’t get me wrong, I still love it and do it every week! There is something absolutely magical about it. The peace, the unknowing, the tranquility of the whole scene unwinding if front of your eyes.

That’s exactly why I got started with portraiture! I still love everything about Landscape photography but there was one thing I couldn’t control. The Light!

For natural light portraiture, you have still got control of light to a certain extent. You can position your individual anywhere in the scene and from a all different angles, blacklight, front lit, side lit.

Then you have artificial light from flashes etc. You now have complete control of everything in your photo!

Variances of light and shadow are the make up of every photo and show emotion. Just like in landscapes, portraits that convey contrast show that same emotion that all my landscape show only more through expression.
