Photography Locations
There are many beautiful locations in and around the Fife area, from bridges to all the small villages around the East Neuk of Fife. The choice is yours depending on how much time you want to allocate to a certain place. Photography is all dependant on “good light” so waiting on the changing conditions is vital to get the right photograph.
All three bridges together
There are many beautiful locations in and around the Fife area. A very popular place for a lovely photograph is of course, the Forth Bridges! The more popular I think is South Queensferry, where you are able to capture all three bridges together, or literally pick which bridge you want to shoot. The composition choices are endless! I have been to this location numerous times and feel that it would be a great place to start. The best times to photograph from South Queenferry is sunrise as the sun rises to the east.
A view from north Queensferry
North Queensferry is a different proposition. You can head right into the village for the classic composition of the “Forth Bridge” (rail bridge) with the Hotel in the foreground. Again, like South Queenferry, the other side of the bridges has got plenty to offer. If you like shooting close to the waters edge, then North Queensferry might be better suited. Although I shot this photo at sunrise, I think sunset would bring a more dynamic photo as the sun sets just to the right of frame.
Aberdour Old Pier from a distance
Along the coast and into Fife the are lots of small villages hugging the coast line. Aberdour is beautiful village and popular with photographers because of the “Old Pier”. There are a couple of vantage points with this being taken from the main promenade area. You can also shoot from right beside it if that is your preference.
Kinghorn
Further along the coast lies my home village of Kinghorn. Of course, I am somewhat biased towards here, but it is a gorgeous location. From Kinghorn, you get to shoot an old historic village from an elevated position into the bay which many people love. This shot was taken at low tide which emphasises the leading lines out to the sea. However, it’s beautiful at high tide and my preferred choice of shot. Below is the fabulous Kissing Trees and when the light is good, they are an absolute pleasure to photograph.

Old harbour wall, Kirkcaldy
Just two miles away is Kirkcaldy, the second largest town in Fife. Rather than go through a list of photos or locations, If you read my Education blog which covers several locations along the coast line including Ravenscraig and Dysart.
Elie Lighthouse
Further up the Fife coast and into the “East Neuk” of Fife, which starts at the ever popular coastal village of Elie. Here you will find an array of photographic opportunities with a beautiful little lighthouse, and within close proximity, there is Lady’s Tower. Both locations are excellent and you can shoot from the beach if you so desire like the second photo.

Zigzag Pier at St Monans
Just a short drive away is St Monans, a small fishing village with plenty to offer. The main attraction is the zigzag pier which photographers travel from all over the country to visit. This is a perfect place to to experiment with shutter speeds. You can even just turn you camera around in the opposite direction and shoot the village itself, like the picture below.
The whole village is extremely picturesque! Another location is the old kirk with various shooting angles to choose from.

Boarhills Church
To the east of St Andrews, there is a gorgeous little church at Boarhills, sitting just off the road, It is very tranquil.
If you did want to venture further up the coast, there is of course St Andrews where no introduction is necessary with the Old Course, the old Cathedral and the ruins of the castle to name a few.
